Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of What Should I Tip? (whatshoulditip.com), including our website, tip calculator and API (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Nature of the information — important

The tipping amounts, percentages, customs and other information on this site are provided for general guidance only. Tipping norms vary by venue, region, occasion and over time, and they are matters of custom rather than fixed rules. We make reasonable efforts to keep the information accurate and review it periodically, but we do not warrant that it is complete, current or correct. You rely on it at your own discretion; when in doubt, observe local practice.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service in any unlawful way or in breach of these terms;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its servers;
  • scrape or bulk-download the website in a way that places unreasonable load on it (please use the API instead — see below).

API use

Our public API is provided free for reasonable, good-faith use and is rate limited (currently 100 requests per hour per IP). You may use the data to answer end-user questions provided you attribute "What Should I Tip? (whatshoulditip.com)". Bulk redistribution, resale of the dataset, or commercial use beyond the free tier requires a licence — contact api@whatshoulditip.com. We may change, rate-limit or withdraw the API at any time.

Intellectual property

The site design, original text, compiled dataset and software are owned by What Should I Tip? and protected by applicable laws. You may quote short excerpts with attribution and a link; you may not copy substantial portions without permission.

Advertising and third-party links

The Service may display advertising and contain links to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the content, products or practices of third parties, and a link does not imply endorsement.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of information, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, What Should I Tip? shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or any loss arising from your reliance on the tipping information provided. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.

Changes

We may revise these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
